This book addressed pretty much all the thoughts, feelings, confusion, and fears that were hamster-wheeling around my head. I feel much calmer and more organized on my thinking now regarding my gender non-conforming child. If you accept the premise that these teens should be helped along in expressing however they like, then the authors have some good advice. I admit to some eye rolling at the exhaustively parsed labeling terminology. And I was a little taken aback by their mentioning of hormone therapy and surgery as if that was no big deal. But overall I am very glad to have this book - they did a good job of talking about universal conditions of adolescence and how gender issues relate.

Overall, great read. Wish it had more concrete intervention examples of how to directly support trans teens rather than strategies. There was not much mention of how to actively work to fight against our cis-normative culture.

This book is very well-written. It is clearly laid out and thorough in terms of the issues faced by parents of all "gender expansive" teens. The only thing I wished they had discussed in a bit more detail are some of the steps teens might be considering taking to bring their body and gender expression into closer alignment with their gender identity (hormones, blockers, binders, surgery, etc.). There was very little mention of those steps and I would have appreciated more.

I received my book, it was as described, and I was excited to start reading it. Honestly, I was super surprised that it assumes that the reader disagrees with gender equality. I guess I assumed it would go over how to help with the transition of using pronouns, how to explain it to other people, but in reality it was a whole lot of "Now I'm sure you feel disappointed that you're child is transgender but here's how you should view it." ... No.. I am not disappointed at all nor do I disagree with it. I don't need help "coping" with the news, I need help with the transition. However, it does have a place in the world and I'm happy that there are books like this to help more conservative parents that may not agree with their child's new discovery about themselves. So I'll give it four stars as it is a good book for some, just not me.

The book did not have the information I wanted - which was an understanding of transgender needs, thinking, dangers ahead. As stated this book maybe a good followup to the first one written by the authors. It did not help me in the areas most needed for someone just entering the world of a transgender.

It is textbook-like BUT it will explain everything and answer most (if not all) your questions and more. Highly recommend!

Excellent book. It has been very helpful to my family and myself. It quickly makes you feel comfortable, addresses your concerns, and goes through the important topics in an effective clear manner.

I love this book for the sensitive exploration of a complex topic without being preachy or judgemental.
